Okay so I have sensitive, blemish prone skin, also hyperpigmentation and oily face. These are my 10 top tips:
1. Use very cold water to wash my face: Apart from the incredibly soothing feeling, I find that it leaves my face feeling quite clean, unlike an oily film I feel over my face when I use warm/room temperature water to wash my face and neck. 2. I don't use the same running water in the shower to wash my face: I wash my face before I get in the shower.3. Only use a pea-sized portion of product and not more (unless specified otherwise)!: I know we're anxious to see results but using more products (especially the ones you don't rinse off immediately) is detrimental to blemish-prone skin. Why? because one of the problems is build-up and if you're layering with many products you'd want to avoid that. Less is more.4. Apply the cleanser on your face, massage well (for about 1min) and leave it on for a little (3-5mins) while before rinsing off: I find that this gives the product to work into my skin and lift the dirt, as opposed to applying and then washing off immediately.5. Do not use towels on your face, best to air dry and then apply product.6. I like to apply product just before all the water on my face and body dries off: This also gives a soothing feeling and feels like the products/treatments are soaking in. I do this for both face and body as I get acne on my body as well.7. Stop touching your face!: This is very hard for me to do but once I started becoming more disciplined about this, the buildups have reduced. Apply the products and leave it alone (LOL). 8. Use a very good (and very mild) micellar water to cleanse the skin before applying product. I find this leaves my skin very clean after washing with cleanser. and my pores feel tighter (not sure if I explained this right).9. Seal the products with a lightweight moisturising lotion: I have oil face but my skin can get very dry if I don't use a moisturiser. But that can also trigger more [sometimes painful] acne if I don't use a lightweight one or use too much. 10. Use your hand to wash your face rather than a sponge or foam: I find that over time the sponge/foam accumulates germs which can make things worse. Safer to use your [clean] hands to wash your face. Also, change your body sponge/foam regularly. These are my 10 tips for keeping blemishes at bay! Also tagged some products below. Thank you!
